G.R.O.  Index Search + Certificate (Approx. year & area given) :  £8-50

This involves the search for a birth, marriage or death in the indexes of the General Register Office, occurring between 1837 & 2005. Once located I will purchase the relevant certificate which will be posted to you.

Searches spanning more than 5 years will be charged at my hourly rate or part thereof.                                                        
                                                                                                                                                                                                            

Census Search 1841 - 1901 :    £4

To search for a person on the census I will require as much detail as possible i.e. full name, approx year of birth and the area involved.
Once located I will provide a copy of the original image plus a transcript.


Hourly Research. :    £16 ( + £2 nominal expenses)

No extra charge is made for travelling time or travel costs within the areas I cover.
Extra time will be spent preparing your report, for which no extra charge will be made. For example if you pay for 4 hours research that is what you will get, with no hidden charges.



Family Tree Package :       £125

This will involve following the single line (paternal or maternal) of a named ancestor back to the mid or early 1800s.

You will receive:

• A detailed personal report in a presentation pack.
• A printed A3 family tree chart on quality paper.
• Copies of relevant census reports.
• Copy certificates obtained as necessary to prove a link.
• All references enabling you to obtain further certificates if required.
• Suggestions for further research.

Things To Consider:

If your requirements do not seem to fit into any of the above categories, contact me and I will be pleased to quote for a package specifically tailored to suit you needs.

Please remember there can be no guarantees with genealogical research.
Much will depend on factors such as:

• The demographic stability of your ancestors.
• Accurate recording by enumerators and incumbents.
• The integrity and reliability of the parties concerned when providing information to registrars.

Research pre 1837 also brings its own problems:

• Handwriting on original documents can be difficult to read.
• Clergy may have been less than dilligent in their record keeping, or records may have been damaged or lost.

However there are often alternative sources of information available, so please rest assured I will do my utmost to carry out your research as comprehensively as possible to your satisfaction.

The speed at which I can carry out your research will also depend on various factors:                                

• The amount and reliabilty of  information you are able to provide me with.
• How far afield I am required to travel to complete your research.

Please discuss with me at the onset if you have a specific deadline in mind.


If you have previously employed a professional researcher please let me know. The chances are that if they have encountered problems, then I will encounter the same problems, hence wasting my time and your money.

After my initial consultation with you to establish your requirements, I will be able to advise you of how many hours research to book.

As with the majority of professional researchers I do require payment in advance (cheque, postal order or Paypal) for non stirling cheques please add £5 to cover bank charges.  However if I encounter problems at any stage and am unable to complete your project I will refund any unused time which has been paid for.

If you wish me to simply trace a line back as far as possible the best approach is for you to tell me how much you want to spend. I will then work to that amount. At that point I will report back to you with my findings to date, thus enabling you to decide if you wish to fund further research.

Want to have a go at doing your own research?

I will accompany you to the relevant Record Office or Library etc. within the areas I cover and coach you in getting started.
This will be charged at my normal hourly rate and I would suggest that you book a minimum of 2 hours if you have no previous experience.
I will also provide a package of helpful hints and tips and suggest reading materials and other  sources of information to help you on your way.
